Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。姚阿绣父女两人与盖州经营纸扇店为生，一日阿绣（乐蒂）于溪旁遇见前来探视的书生刘子固（赵雷），刘子固因见阿绣貌美，竟然失足掉落水，阿绣暗笑。 不久刘子固于纸扇店中再见佳人，为打动佳人芳心，天天前来光顾，阿绣亦芳心暗许，奈何姚老爹（梁锐）却不喜刘子固。后来，刘子固随舅父前往相亲，对象原来是阿绣，经过一番波折，姚老爹终于愿意让女儿下嫁刘子固。 一日阿绣与刘子固出游，至一古庙时遇见一位仙子（乐蒂），刘子固赞美仙子，阿绣却出言相讥，仙子于是作法，令二人变成冤家。当时刚巧有一富家子弟来向姚老爹提亲，姚老爹本就不喜欢刘子固，又见阿绣与刘子固闹翻，遂一口答应婚事。 此富家公子原是扇中精灵，机缘巧合下被阿绣释放出来，于是前来提亲，并且对阿绣纠缠不休，誓娶阿绣为妻。 阿绣大婚之日，刘子固前来，与精灵争妻，令阿绣十分难堪，欲图自尽，幸为众人所救。此时庙中仙子又化身为阿绣在...。
