粱醒 (廖启智饰)、蔡克男 (陈秀雯饰)为武术一代宗师，在卧虎藏龙的三元镇开设武馆保芝堂，教授村民强身健体功夫，为村民主持公道，甚得村民敬重。镇上博学文家的文博仁( 江华饰)乃状元之后，与妻子马玲珑(龚慈恩饰)开设博学书舍，以弘扬儒家思想为己任，也为村民所景仰。梁、文两家都是识英雄重英雄，但两家夫人虽为表姐妹，却因宿怨结了冤家。他们事事争斗，冲突与日俱争。这时，来自四川的姐弟孟家凤和孟家堂，凭一只镬在镇上煮出诸般美味，开设了三元酒菜馆并搞出了名堂，他们荣升美味大王，举足轻重。三方为争夺群龙之首，互不相让，斗得轰轰烈烈，闹出连篇笑话。他们也在不经意间释放友谊，建立真诚和信任，演绎一出出精彩的人与人之间的真诚故事。。The subtitle of Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet’s first feature, from 1965, “Only Violence Helps Where Violence Reigns,” suggests the fierce political program evoked by their rigorous aesthetic. The pretext of the film, set in Cologne, is Heinrich Böll’s novel “Billiards at Half Past Nine,” which they strip down to a handful of stark events and film with a confrontational angularity akin to Bartók’s music that adorns the soundtrack. The subtlest of cues accompany the story’s complex flashbacks. The middle-aged Robert Fähmel tells a young hotel bellhop of persecutions under the Third Reich| his elderly father, Heinrich, an architect famed for a local abbey, recalls the militarism of the First World War, when his wife, Johanna, incurred trouble for insulting the Kaiser. A third-generation Fähmel is considering architecture, just as the exiled brother of Robert’s late wife, returns, only to be met by their former torturer, now a West German official taking part in a celebratory parade of war veterans. Straub and Huillet make the layers of history live in the present tense, which they judge severely.
