本片以喜剧恶搞的形式展现古朴小镇发生的一系列搞笑故事。电影讲述一名时髦、爽朗的女孩逃家出走，误闯到一个安静古朴的小镇，和刚刚回乡的客栈店主等乡民一个，与来征地的房地产老板做斗争。。民国时期，外地求学的酒坊传人吴皖忠接到一封电报，让他迅速赶回家中，见病危老母，回到家之后，他才发现这是父亲的一个阴谋，想让他和王家女子结婚，取得药酒“红粉佳人”的配方。“红粉佳人”佳酿重新出世也是吴皖忠自己的想法，但他不屑于此种亵渎爱情的行为，为此他离开家，到省城从小工做起，力图证明光明大道也能实现心中理想。就这样，在挫折和磨难当中，吴皖忠终于成功。日本人侵略中国，为了坚守民族的信念，为了家、国、天下，吴皖忠把“红粉佳人”美酒变毒药，让这些刽子手在幻梦中走向灭亡。。MOTHER TONGUE (母语) is a portrait of a Chinese American family in which the consequences of a mother’s decision to leave her young daughter in the care of a white American “homestay” family are slowly unearthed over the course of a family dinner.
